Although it is as difficult to date the origin of this castle as the cerdane tower, it is clear that it was part of the defense system of Cerdanya. It is found as a possession of the Baron d'Enveitg, owner of the entire Carol Valley from the Lanoux pond to the plateau cerdan. It must be this powerful family that had it built during the establishment of the defensive system of Cerdanya. This system was composed of 3 elements with regard to the valley of the Carol: At the head, on the most northern part, the tower cerdane, of which some ruins remain, then further in the valley the castle of Carol and finally to the third Carol's tower, another defensive tower that gave its name to the current village of Latour de Carol. Carol's castle stood on a rock overlooking the valley. Its fortifications were of great thickness, which indicates the importance of the place. From this castle, we have two towers called today "Little Carol", they are on the right side of the Carol up the valley.
